Many games have build graphics benchmark tools to help people see what kind of performance they can get in game with different settings, and even a way to submit their results for different default setting modes to compete with other people. Seeing the performance would be good to help players decide which settings they want to use, but the benchmark leaderboards would be more useful for engine development and optimization. Have various scene types visited while in the benchmark so that a ton of different visual effects and lighting scenarios can all be experienced, and have part of the submission be a chart of frame times. Then the chart timestamps can be matched up with the benchmark tests to see just what was happening when frames plummeted. Submissions also include the hardware specs, including clock speeds, voltages, temps. So if only a small fraction of players are experiencing a dip, and there's not a hint of it on the majority of people's systems, the hardware specs might reveal it only happening to a specific graphics card. (Maybe the 2-in-1 cards like the Titan Z, or the R9 295X2) Plus, it'd just be fantastic if we could see hardware reviewers using Star Citizen to benchmark new hardware all over the place. Awesome for visibility.
