Hi devs! New player here. Been playing about a month with a couple of friends and we've all got real concerns about the basic "open world"ness of PvP at the moment. Currently there's very little drawback to being a PvPer if that's what you want to do. You can still get missions. You can still respawn and get your ships. And jail is a joke. My friend was talking about another game, Last Oasis, where teams of PvPers have made the game unplayable because clans of 20+ people go around and grief people. These groups don't fight each other because they don't wait a fair battle / to lose anything, so they only play to grief people. This caused the griefed players to stop logging in and new people to stop joining the game. The devs have confirmed this. What are the plans of the devs to stop this kind of thing when the game becomes a lot more popular? I don't want to eliminate PvP, I just want it to be a choice to either participate (i.e. there is a rewarding game loop inside policed zones) or have PvP actually have drawbacks that make it a hard choice to start doing and something you have to dedicate yourself to (e.g. you cannot drop your crime stat after killing 20 people in about 30m of doing vent missions in jail.) PvP that isn't based around fun being at the expense of other's fun, unless they choose to be put at risk. I see you have factions in the game with some bandit-based ones, but you haven't done much to really make them... mutually exclusive in some way. Will factions become more important later on? Perhaps when there are more than 1 star system? Is your plan to just leave it as open PvP? If so, how do you imagine that working when people are dicks and will grief people as much as possible? Just to highlight how griefing is already a thing in this game, there's the tactic that Siege of Orison has highlighted, the "jump in front of people to give them crime stat" tactic. Are you going to do something about that? Perhaps a strike system or "less than 1" crime stat for just shooting somebody by accident. I would just like to see the devs to show that they are thinking about these kinds of problems. And that they know that players cannot regulate these things themselves. Matt.
