Please just give us a straight answer; Is the resource management system going to limit energy weapon ammo? Because right now energy weapon power just comes from the Aether and has no limits. But that seems to fly in the face of the resource management system you were supposed to be working on as of over a year ago. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/engineering/16517-The-Shipyard-Fuel-Mechanics So please, give us a straight answer already. Are energy weapons going to have their ammo limited by fuel and how are you balancing weapons accordingly? *Some context for this post. I worked on generators for a good portion of my life, power generation is my thing, so let me explain how it works: Generators use fuel to spin an alternator, which is a magnet inside a conductor spool (or can be the opposite in some cases). The act of moving that rod takes energy, that energy fights gravity+air friction and does nothing without the presence of a load on those conductors. When there is a load on those conductors (IE the consumer is using power) then a magnetic force puts strain on the spinning rod making it harder to spin the rod. Without more fuel to put more force on the rod, it will just stop. The engine must use more fuel to produce more power, there is no exception. Whether that fuel comes from a combustion engine, or heat from nuclear, or kinetic from a hydroplant one way or another, more load means more fuel usage. The two are directly proportional. Now, in SC right now, that is not the case. Energy weapons use barely any noticeable load and the power plant runs effectively forever regardless of load on the power plant. That obviously is a temporary thing till we get the resource management system, but too many people are accustomed to the idea that their energy weapons can be fired with reckless abandon with no consequences to their power plants fuel lifespan. Which in a real world analogy would be like leaving your air conditioner on and all the doors and windows of your house open and thinking your power bill should not change. So, the point to asking all of this so regularly even if the devs never decide to answer it is to serve as a regular reminder, that power is not some magic infinite generator that can generate enough power to make a sun for months until it has to be repaired for unrelated reasons. Thats just not how power works. The implications of this is that using energy weapons should spike your power plant draw to the point it causes a visible draw on your power plant's fuel. That in turn causes a tangible number of times energy weapons can be fired before your power plant runs out of fuel. That is something the devs need to consider, and I want them to address it before it just shows up in universe and breaks combat. *Update 3/25 ISC. Kind of disappointed at just how quickly they ran away from talking about the resource management system. They went as far to say: "We want you to be able to control resource usage" "Its a big system" Then they just ran immediately away to the loot system and never went back to the topic.... Really makes you worry if after years of work all they have to tell us is that its a big system...
