I'm really hoping I heard that wrong, but I just saw one of the update vids about "doing time" and it made it sound like the ONLY place to hack down your crime stat will soon be in a forced PvP area, that Security Post that I can never remember how to spell will become basically a permanent Jumptown. Is that true? So accidental issues like friendly fire or glitches like trespassing during a mission will now mean pvp or jail? In the stream where we were watching that vid, people were also saying that armistice zones are going away too. So pvp griefers will have free reign to just harass anyone anywhere? The number of people in that chat talking about leaving the game and trying to get a refund if that stuff happens was insane and I can't say I blame them. I probably wouldn't try to get a refund because I've already had a good amount of fun, but forcing any type of gameplay on anyone will drive lots of people away, and a lot of them won't even look back. If a bug causes me to be forced into the choice of PVP or Prison, I'ma just log out and only come back if I happen to hear somewhere that such things have changed. And before anyone comes back with "The entire verse is a PvP zone" I DON'T CARE. When some troll camps outside GrimHex, I can quickly zip above or below the plane of the asteroid field and jump away. If I get a crime stat for loading my small ship onto a friend's bigger ship (I've seen that happen) and my only choice is PvP or jail (which is also apparently going to be a PvP free-for-all as well) then that's it, I'll be done and I know a LOT of other players will walk away too. Contrary to what some people might say, most of us don't enjoy ruining other people's days by ganking others just for crits and giggles. That's the sort of crap that creates a toxic community and I would hate to see that happen to Star Citizen. But, there are some ways to avoid that kind of backlash and toxicity. 1: Armistice zones actually make sense. 900 years in the future, it makes sense that we'd have the tech to have a signal within certain ranges of places the take ship weapons offline. It would also make sense that once in a while, some big crime group like 9tails could slap together a device to jam that signal. 2: Make PvP a Toggle Mode in the settings with a 5 minute delay before it takes effect and/or 5 minute cooldown on switching toggle states. This could make your weapons fire not effect other players (this would stop friendly fire accidents and such too tho) but also make it so other player's fire can't effect you. The delay/cooldown of the toggle would make it near-impossible for it to be abused by said griefers. I understand all that would be a hassel for bounty missions involving a player target, but there must be a way around that, like maybe make the toggle be ineffective against ONLY people that have the specific mission for a bounty on you? I get that there are no perfect solutions to anything, but trying to force PvP on the large % of players that actively HATE PvP content is one of the worst ideas in the long, sad history of bad ideas. I really, REALLY hope I am wrong in what I thought I heard and that this post ends up as just an embarassing rant. Am I wrong? Please tell me that I'm wrong.
