Hello CIG and star citizens! So we are a few weeks into PTU and as a fighter pilot, I've been practicing a lot in the new flight model. I have little to say about the new FM. I like it and even if I didn't I'd have to adapt to liking it because i'm a CIG fanboy (sue me). One thing tho that I don't like AT all are the fixed weapon mode at its current state and I'd like to know more about it. As you can see in the gif above I'm using FIXED weapons. Only thing is, they ain't fixed. Lasers and ballistics are exiting fixed weapon barrels from left to right. Sometimes it goes completely bananas and shots everywhere but straight. This is ONCE you lock to a target. Before lock weapons actually do fire fixed. Worst of all I've heard this is intentional and not a bug... I feel I need answers and I think a lot of us fixed weapons users need it to. Is this intended? (If not) How is the fixed mode intended to work? Will there be any changes to the current fixed mode before PTU goes live? Why are lasers and ballistics, that are place fixed straight on the hull (no gimbal), shooting from the sides of the weapon muzzles? - Is this really intended? (If so) Please do elaborate, is it lore, did something happen on earth so humanity had to reinvent the wheel? Explain the mechanics of a bullet traveling through a barrel in a straight line and then how it somehow manages change direction once it leaves the barrel, and at the same time keep momentum and speed? What does this mean for small fighters and their roles? If intended there is no reason to use size 3 weapons on smaller fighters as its completely obsolete and inferior to size 2 gimbaled at it's current state. (size 3 has a killtime of 6 min whereas gimbaled has a killtime of around 1 1/2 min) ( https://youtu.be/76haEF9MEWg ) - Cred to Legacy crew o7 How will this be balanced out? (if intentional) Fixed weapons were intended for the hardcore and dedicated dogfighter, at least that's what CIG has told us (source: the Heartseeker sell pitch). Is it still the ambition or has it changed? (If so) Please elaborate, why did it change? What does this mean for the future of competitive dogfighting? Now that we have auto-gimbals, what is the purpose of auto-aim mechanic in fixed mode? Personal: This is really important to me and probably others. When I first pledged I did it as a pilot and I'm still a pilot and a dogfighter at heart. I haven't been concerned about much in Star Citizen but I really feel that this is something I have to contribute with and try help and fix. It's a huge part of my gameplay so of course, if there is a slight chance this could be fixed before 3.5 goes live would mean the world to me and many others. Aiming should be smoother and easier and to be honest (impossible with weapons shooting all over the place), the best way to get good is to get manual and use the force. Luke Skywalker taught us that. ( https://youtu.be/KuKqcfO31is?t=16 ) Finally: Try seeing it from an FPS perspective. If you're aiming a P4 and the bullets start shooting, not straight but through the sides of the barrel, going in a 90 - 45-degree angle. Now add this randomly. It just wouldn't work. I just want fixed weapons to fire straight, fixed straight line. Is all. o7 to all of you Citizens out there and Thank you CIG for all your hard work. Mad respect and big ups. // Your friendly neighborhood beer delivery guy - Felham PS. Please stay constructive, no salt, no toxicity. Love you all, peace.
