Just wanted to get in touch with you guys after viewing today's reverse the verse with the audio team - Excellent episode by the way, I'd recommend anyone see it. In this video (linked below for ease to the time index of 24:58) the question of rain sounds on windscreens came up. I appreciated the answer but this got me to thinking; how many people ACTUALLY have experienced rain in an aircraft moving at 140 KIAS + (approach speed, which is 161 MPH, 259 KPH, 72 M/s)) and then again at around the 250 KIAS (288 MPH, 463 KPH, 129 M/s) that its sometimes encountered during cruise climb/descent? My guess, VERY few and even fewer in the software development world. In this video it's mentioned that individual sounds would be costly and "paraphrasing here" the pattern of individual raindrops is kind of cathartic... WELL - not so much at the speeds we are really referencing. This is the point I wanted to illustrate since we were talking about approximating reality in this game. I would HIGHLY recommend the devs view the second video I linked where a Boeing Business Jet shoots and approach and goes missed due to heavy rain - in particular I'd like to point out the audio along with the visuals - its more of a BLAST of water kind of sound... and not individual drops at the speeds we are talking about. The BBJ's approach speed is 138 KIAS in this video. I'd LOVE to get you some additional in cockpit/flight footage, but do to restrictions for OBVIOUS reasons - this will most likely not be possible. THIS VIDEO is probably one of the best out there that showcases this. Just imagine that sound MUCH louder and faster if encountered at cruise/climb or cruise/descent speeds of 250 KIAS and that's probably the best I can give unless there is a private pilot out there flying a biz jet who can get us some footage of this. Anyhow, I'm hoping this feedback will be useful - if anyone else has anything to contribute, please do!
