Sketto Rock, Lore and Exploration! OP https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/poi-sketto-rock So what I’d really like to talk about is geography, exploring and discovery, in the hopes this becomes a big deal in the verse! So rather than a petition for “Sketto Rocks” return, how about we petition for some unique geographical formations. Back in 3.13 I was exploring and mapping my favorite moon Magda. I was paying close attention to all the features to see if I could find any patterns related to mining. After many days, I happen to came across a large rock that was big enough to land on that was sticking out of the side of a mountain. I didn’t look like a glitch in the new planet tech, more like it was intentionally placed there! My initial reaction was just wow, CIG is actually putting this stuff in game now. Of course this place needed a name so I called it “Sketto Rock”. All I wanted to do is share this on Spectrum and find more geological formations through exploration! Although the new planet tech is spectacular, this one rock really made me feel exploration was a thing now in the verse! Very exciting! Many on Spectrum enjoyed Sketto Rock posting pics and videos exploring the new location. (Links below) I think it really encouraged players to get out and do some exploration of their own. Maybe setting up a secret meeting location to do business or trade. A place to hang after a long day of mining in the area. Or a cool place to chill and watch the spectacular teal sunsets of Magda. It wasn’t much, but it was something, it was misterius creation, sparking gameplay and stories for others in the verse! Then 3.14 hit and Sketto Rock was not there anymore. I am aware of past geological glitches and their disappearance, but this one was different. This formation, however accidental, fit the geological area pretty well. Which has something to be said about the planet tech that made this. A random glitch that didn't look like a glitch, but more like a unique geological formation found throughout our own solar system. Did the new planet tech really create this, and if so that's some pretty cool stuff right there! My disappointment comes only with the removal of potential exploration. Something we could be doing now, accidental or not. We need this gameplay desperately and Sketto Rock was a simple example that it can be done now. Of course I don’t know where CIG is with planet tech and when they will finalize planet-moon surfaces (Alpha). What I’d like to see is more talk about this subject and what CIG has in store for us. Calling all Devs topic? SC Live? Even with the many content creators! Ultimately, would I like Sketto Rock returned, well hell yes of course. I mean it is officially a part of SC lore! However the real questions are many. Did planet tech actually create this? Yes and it should be preserved as an example of CIG planet tech. Will it generate gameplay and stories? Yes it already has. Would it be one of many remote places to visit? Yes and I look forward to what’s to come! It would be such a great example to the start of exploration in the verse! It was such a good feeling finding this location. Lets make this an example of what’s to come! Let us show others, if you put the work in, they can experience exploration as well!
