Follow-up to my thread in general : https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/the-last-we-heard-ssocs-was-the-thing-holding-us-u --- In Pillar Talk 3.8, Tony Z said the following : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEwik6g0Lwo&feature=youtu.be&t=363 Essentially that SSOCS will "break us free from these limitations in terms of how many locations and how much content we can put in the solar system ... well now we can add all these new locations without impacting the frame rates at all... So what this is going to allow us to do is put more outposts, more space stations, more derelict ships, more caves ..." etc... Where the argument is basically that all these locations are objects which are streamed in ONLY when absolutely necessary, and thus now CIG can start adding tons of locations to the game. Having 60 people per server, each at a different location, still means you only need to stream in 60 locations. Adding 10,000 more won't matter (even if we assume they're completely spread out), because they won't even be streamed in. Or at least, that's exactly how Tony Z and CR explained it to us. But here we are 10 months later, and we don't see any more locations. Maybe a few space stations, sure, but the game is still mostly a "content desert" with small "oasis" scattered about such as outposts of 1-5 buildings, hero landing zones, rest stops, etc... Still, even on planets, 99% of the surface is completely void of game play. It has no reason to exist, and there's nothing you can do there except potentially mine. --- So I guess my question is, what gives? Did SSOCS not work as intented? Do we need to wait for SSOCS v2? Are the assets and tools for procedural location generation not ready yet? Will this stuff be built into the next version of Planet Tech (so that you can "paint" on procedural made settlements)? Have you allocated these resources elsewhere because it's not a priority? Are you waiting for the actor team to build in procedurally generated people to exist within these locations?
