Dear CIG and community. So here is a story of my past, that should serve as a warning for the future of SC. Freelancer Discovery was my favourite game for a long time and I was happy with the community which I was in. However, one day I came through the California>Cortez jumphole and went towards the Cortez>Coronado jumphole; a route that I had taken often. So I turned my ship, hit cruise and tabbed out to write something in the forums. I tabbed back in at the right time for me to arrive at the jumphole, just to notice that I was passing the jumphole in like 2 kilometres distance. Only then it was that I noticed, that I had travelled 50k+ kilometres in cruise mode, without autopilot. In other words, I had been so used to exactly that route, that I hit the right pixel on my monitor without any programmatic aid. And it was exactly in that instance that I realized, that all those beautiful and mesmerizing star systems I had visited, were just plain old static maps. In that moment the uncanny valley hit me so instantly and hard, that I quit the game even before reaching my destination. I tried to go back in and find the beauty again, but every time I did, I just saw lifeless objects, statically hanging in an artificial void. This realization was so profound, that playing freelancer actually physically nauseated me, from that point forward. So what I'm trying to say is: in order to prevent the same ugliness in Star Citizen, it is paramount, that you turn on the orbital motion of the planets ASAP. Why ASAP? Here is the reason: This has been delayed for years now, but since S42 will most likely come out this year, it's now or never. If you don't turn on the orbital motion, your artists will create maps (no, not star systems, maps) that contain small but game breaking static things. You won't notice them until you turn on the planetary motion, and if you continue waiting, you can be sure that there will be such a mountain of forgotten tiny things, that you won't be able to turn on the planetary motion in perpetuity. As of now, we don't have that many planetary systems and the game is still in alpha. So what ever might be static so far, is fixable still. But if we continue without planetary motion, you will never again be able to turn it on in the future. Thank you for reading all of this. With best regards, Clyde.
