They never adapt to the ground's height. Because of this bad design, it's often impossible for large ships (even for a "small" Freelancer and it's gradient door actually) to go inside when they are landed on a non flat area. An image is better to explain the problem. The solution would be to have elevators that can extend between 3 and 8 m for example (depending of the ship ofc), with a collision detection, instead of having elevators who can only be retracted or extended at a fixed length. Thanks for upvoting this post and the issue report. If CIG don't see it they will continue using this bad design for future ships and it will be a waste of time and ressources.
