If you guys ever come across this post, hi o/ So I have a weird question regarding a specific rain effect for when you guys get to start working on it. I know everything is possible if given enough time, and there isn't always enough time, but I figured I'd at least bring it up. ...would it at all be possible to create a dynamic system for water dripping/cascading from ship edges when it rains? If you could for example gauge if ship model normals are pointing horizontal relative to gravity, and if there is no horizontal normals underneath it relative to gravity; if so, save it as a point in space. It would then create points in a 3D space that flows along all edges right before they start tilting towards gravity. If you then could use those points with the particle system to create dripping/cascading effects? You could then tie the particles into rain density for frequency, and wind and speed for direction; so at high speed the water effect would lay more horizontal and stretched out, but when not in motion it would appear to be dripping/flowing straight down from a edge. The worlds worst MS paint example: https://i.imgur.com/wL8MdJI.png My example is silly and it doesn't really work that way I bet, but I just thought I'd at least provide an example from a layman's point of view. Rain just creates this awesome mood, and when it looks right it feels right; and before you know it you get caught up into it like reading a book and forgetting the world around you. Details are so important, especially details that try to mimic something we have experienced in real life. I can't wait to walk up to my ship when its pouring down, getting inside and the sound goes from really loud to a gentle hollow tapping on the hull, watching the stream roll down the windows. No idea why I nerd out about rain, it just such a moodsetter I guess. (Also, how cool would it be if the new ship hull dirt layering system interacted with rain, so if you flew under a rain cloud it would clean the ship hull over time, saving you from having to get it cleaned manually?) Anyway, just thought I would at least ask if something like that is doable.
