The SRV is a tractor beam ship primarily built for towing ships and moving other items via tractor beam but to date it has less function than all ship mounted basic tractor beams. Why it needs a revisit 1. It lacks the ability to manipulate any thing with its beam , no rotation , no distance control , currently the only beam ingame where this is true. 2 The beam is a wet noodle , if an ship or item is higher than the ship it will drift into the ship if its below the ship it will drift away and the is not lateral stability 3 No way to lock an item in to a fixed position , most of the concept art shows the side pads assisting with the tractoring of items which would make a stable triangulated connection , you should be able to use the main beam to move an item in place to move then lock it by engaging the side pads for tow position , even it is faked by having a window to position the load in and once in they "engage" the load swing and drift is great reduced 4 Currently a lone SRV can not tow a ship that would be an inconvenience to claim and there are now practical mission or use for it in game in its current state. 5 Most patches the Quantum tow feature simply does not work, either it leaves the ship behind or it bugs the ship or beam out in some way and combined TOW has not worked since day one. 6 (not an advertised feature) No way to use the beam in front of the ship , the arm should allow it to lock into a forward facing position making i practical for non towing work Note the side beam function currently if you towed a ship and it drifted this close it would ram you on deceleration
