I was reading the recent gold reply regarding the Redeemer and noticed that, once we have blades, even blading just the forward remote turret would give the pilot equal DPS to a Freelancer, which as someone who generally loves my Lancer, is very appealing to me. I've also spent a lot of time in a Vanguard thinking "if only I could blade the turret..." And of course solo MSR pilots will want this bad. So, question in title. I'm wondering because it doesn't seem to me like any part of iCache - persistence, container streaming, none of it - is relevant to getting turret blades in the game. I'm sure there must be some sort of blocker, though, because otherwise it would've been shipped by now, given how much balancing will be needed once it is. We already have NPCs in turrets (see any youtube video where someone hijacks a NPC Hammerhead) and it seems to me this means the vast majority of the code needed to make blades is already done. So what are blades waiting on? Not complaining, just asking. And if there isn't a direct blocker, might I humbly suggest that this be made a higher priority? Not only would it increase the number of viable combat ships, it would also give noncombat vessels a better fighting chance against them, both of which would add a new layer of uncertainty and risk to combat. Seems like that'd spice up combat while we wait on more loops to be done, without require a lot of work that has to be replaced later on. EDIT: TO REITERATE, I AM ASKING WHAT THE BLOCKERS ARE. I AM NOT DEBATING THE MERITS OF BLADES. I SIMPLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE BLOCKERS ARE, NOTHING ELSE. EDIT 2: Per Kenga84 and Strangefate below, the answer is Physicalized Components. Thank you two gents for actually answering my question! I still don't understand WHY that system is required for blades, but if that's the answer then so be it, I guess.
