I was very excited for the arrival of the Apollo. Don't get me wrong, I still am, but the closer it gets, the more I ask myself what it's purpose is. When I got the Apollo, my idea of medical gameplay was this: You fly around, wait for a beacon, then rescue the person, and drop them off at a space station, and/or bring them to the hospital there. In this scenario, the Apollo (and other medical ships) actually had a purpose. But now, with the direction of medical gameplay, this looks vastly different. If you are in a party of 2, there is no need for a medical ship. If each of you have a MedGun, you can just keep reviving each other. And solo players can just take something very inexpensive like a C8R, and use it as a respawn. This means right now, all medical ships are good for really is as a respawn location. I don't know how you feel about this, but I am not happy at all about this. But I don't want this post to just be a rant. As I have tried with my post about player housing and apartments (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/50259/thread/player-housing-v1-apartments), I want to give my 2 cents about what I think is the solution to this. I think this problem can be solved in two steps. First, add an additional state to players, called "stabilized". It's like incapacitated, but you don't have a timer. You still can't move. And the second part (and I know a lot of casual players won't like this), MedGuns cannot get rid of the incapacitated state. Let's talk through a scenario, and how everything fits together. You are doing a bunker run with a party of two. With the risk of getting incapacitated and not just being able to alternating between getting incapacitated, you actually have to manage your health a lot better. It encourages better health management by players. Now lets say one of you gets downed. Instead of the other just aiming their med gun at them and all is good, they probably have to drag their teammate to a safe place. Giving them a MedPen or MedGun charge will stabilize them, so they are not on a timer anymore. From here, I want to split the scenario into two branches. Option 1: The alive player assesses the risk, determines it is too risky. They can drag their fallen teammate into their ship (hopefully its one with interior), and fly off to a clinic. Again, this adds a new depth to general FPS. Option 2: The alive player either clears out the bunker, and then continue with option 1, or, he falls as well. And this is where the medical ships come in. The Apollo (or any other medical ship) now sees the beacon. Now they don't just arrive, point the MedGun and that's it, but they now have to clear out the location of hostiles (or build a defensive perimeter), and then drag the fallen players to safety. They can then stabilize the players. Now remember, they can't just get revived. This is what only medical beds can do. So the rescue team will have to get these players onto the medical ship. In there, the players can get revived, healed, etc. In my opinion, this makes a lot more sense, and seems like an easy change to me, with lots of impact, not just to medical gameplay, but also to FPS in general. I do think there are a couple of things that we would need in order for this to work nicely. First, medical beacons need to work. I think that's a no brainer. And potentially, as a nice to have, you, as the medical rescue, should define the price. Basically, you receive the beacon, and then make a price offer, which the recipient can accept with the normal mission accept flow. Second, a hover bed trolley. We already have these bed trolleys you can find at clinics. They work ok, as long as the ground is smooth. Please give us a hover version of it. Make them purchasable, and callable to a freight elevator. This way, you can easily load them onto the medical ship. And finally, this is not a must, but medical drones (sort of). It's an extension of the hover bed trolley. Make it so they can be lowered through the floor, and then hovers to the ground. This means you don't have to use the back ramp (on the Apollo). It makes this a bit more accessible, and gives us a sort of hybrid drone that needs to be pushed. What do you think? I have put a lot of thought into this, and in my opinion, this would make medical gameplay a thing, without much effort. I would love to hear your thoughts. Safe space travels everyone. o7
