What are the dev's plans for the purpose of fighters in the future in large space battles? I'm asking because based off the direction Yogi has talked about in SC Live, CitCon, etc, it seems like they are going to become superfluous or pointless in battle. Why do I say this? Well because according to these talks, 3 points were brought up that will hurt fighters in a large squadron space battle that could occur in Star Citizen: 1) They will do significantly less, possibly 0 damage to large ships with tough armor. "It will be like shooting a tank with a pistol. The tank doesn't care." (source, Citcon, SC Live) 2) "They will not be able to get close to large ships without dying." (or something to that affect). Large ships will wreck small ships with ease, esp when speeds are reduced in Master Modes. (source: Citcon, SC Live) 3) Turrets will likely get the Precision Mode that fighters will also have allowing them to fire at further away ships/components/objects/etc. (source: SC Live) Typically in a Rock-Paper-Scissors combat system it would look something like (very generalized here) Large Ships beat Medium Ships, Medium Ships beat Small Ships, Small Ships beat Large Ships (by being very hard to hit and still having effective weapons). Now in the direction it sounds like SC Devs are going, Large ships will also defeat small ships, and small ships can't do squat against large ships. So in a large battle for control, why would we bring fighters at all? It's just going to be Polarises/Hammerheads/etc vs Polarises/Hammerheads/etc. Those pilots loving the single seat fighters have no real point in joining a battle as they can't affect the outcome save some possibly very niche role. Large ship Turret gunners will be more effective and be able to defeat anything that comes their way...or even those that try to hit from afar. @Yogi : Are we moving from Rock-Paper-Scissors format? I feel this is a terrible direction to go in. How will Fighters have a place in the battlescape?
