I suspect this question will get blanked, but what the heck, shoot ya shot right? This year CIG have failed to deliver 4 patches. 3.15 was a Q3 release with a time window of July - September. It missed this by a huge amount only finally being delivered half way through Q4. The Q4 patch, 3.16, has virtually no content, and has been stated to be staying on the 3.15 base code, so its essentially 3.15.2 at this point. If its not live by the 31st of December, which is a little over a week away and youre basically going to be on holiday within a couple of days at this point, then thats it, you missed Q4 completely this year. Even if you deliver it to live, its barely more than just a polish pass on 3.15 anyway. Will 3.17 be delivered before the end of March? I have my doubts, but just updating the game and giving the update a patch number that moves up a number isnt really fooling anyone. It seems clear to me that the reallocation of teams from the PU to SQ42 as was stated recently by CIG is now being felt in full force. While I can understand the business motivation for this move, the net result for us backers is once again delays upon delays in the development of the PU, a tough pill to swallow in the face of yet another record year of funding and the most funding ever for a November. The blow might be softened if there was even a drop of SQ42 news, but we were given nothing, zero, zip, nada. From a backers perspective, SQ42 doesnt exist outside of CIG saying that it does, and people can make up their on minds on the value of CIGs word. Anyway, my question here really is, whats the actual split of resource between SQ42 and the PU. Right now it feels like backers are trying their best to support the project and the reward is, as ever, radio silence on SQ42 and stacks of delays up to the ceiling, while it seems like 80% of resource goes to SQ42 and the PU is the side project. It sure would be nice if we could be offered some sort of clarity around this, though I realise thats about as likely as the queen of England telling us her bank balance. As a footnote, Id like to point out that I know the general line from CIG is that all work on SQ42 benefits the PU as its all transferable assets (from that I imaginbe SQ42 to now be more like an open world experience, kind of like how single player Red Dead is an open world experience rather than just an on rails level based design). That's fine, except that until we can play that stuff, its just talk and it assumes that as soon as SQ42 releases, there will be a massive drop of content into the PU where all that transferable work is then block moved into the PU. To say Im sceptical that will happen is an understatement. If that doesnt happen, then its kind of irrelevant as to how applicable SQ42 work is to the on going development of the PU, especially when all we know about SQ42 is a vertical slice and some pre-rendered trailers from years ago.
