When will Star Citizen start pushing graphical boundaries? @ABrown_CIG We are still dealing with an decade old API (dx11), poor lighting techniques and CIG even made some controversial choices lately (for example in Digital Foundries video) where they stated they are still considering raytracing, because they don't want to create massive overhead (yet actually delaying this, will result in more overhead). Especially since when SQ42 actually comes out, (my expectations are late 2021-2022), raytracing will be a new standard already set by even the console generation. The choices now being made, are actually detrimental for high-end hardware, and make them suffer from less performance, because CIG decides to support some arbitrary (pretty low) min-spec. Pretty ironic don't you think, for a company which has shouted from the roof tops that consoles are holding back PC Gaming, now find itself in an alpha where they do not want to higher the min-spec to next gen console levels (because some people will be unable to play the alpha). Also CIG should come to realization that while more people might be impacted now, the controversy when this game is actually released, will most likely be even higher when people find out they can suddenly not play the game anymore on low-specced hardware. It's pretty sad and weak leadership I would say, because if this game was behind closed curtains, it would not even have been a debate, but a no-brainer. A Live environment should not hold CIG back to make some controversial calls, which are better for the product as a whole, perhaps at the expense of some people not being able to play the game in the meantime. Also with the current environment hardware is easier accessable then ever, through for example Geforce Now or ShadowPC, so even the people which do not have a proper videocard yet for raytracing and the below mentioned primitive shaders, this should really not be an issue. Also as evident on this topic, where I already pointed this out to CIG: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/50259/thread/mesh-primitive-shaders-and-star-citizen
