One of the impressed things about Star Citizen is the extremely realistic space design, as we would see it from orbit of Earth. Deep, infinite blackness and our glaring sun, which creates the extreme contrasts in space and on moons that cannot be seen within an atmosphere or gas cloud, as the gas molecules break the light, distribute it and make environment light diffuse and shadows soft. Now someone has painted space green and the real blackness and contrasts are lost. (on PTU) Why? Now space looks cheap, as in Starfield or arcade games. Or has someone transport Stanton in a gas cloud? Why damage your brilliant work and realistic look of space in StarEngine? Explanation: More than 99,9% of space is empty and therefore black. Even in galaxies, only very young stars are in gas clouds (birthplaces of young suns and their uninhabitable protoplanets). The planets and her sun absorb these gases through their gravity over time and and the system is largely gas-free, like ours and all other habitable solar systems. There are only two ways to get diffuse light and soft shadows in Space similar to that on a planetary surface including atmosphere. 1. In or very near a gas cloud. 2. In the orbit of a large planet (as example gas giants = softbox) like Crusader. All other places in space have this high contrast of blackness to glaring sunlight and hard shadows that is typical of space. Like at Star Citizen Live Server. Until now. Of course just my opinion with limited astrophysically expertise. Good flight.
