Hello CIG Team and Star Citizen Community, I want to bring up an issue that affects many of us: the ability to change ship skins anywhere in the game. Right now, we have to fly back to our home planet to change our skins – and that’s really inconvenient. Especially on longer trips, like from Pyro to Stanton, or even farther, it’s pretty frustrating to have to make detours just to access a skin that you might want to use at that moment. With weapons and equipment, I understand why they aren’t globally accessible – it makes sense from a gameplay perspective. But when it comes to ship skins, I see it differently. These are cosmetic items that don’t affect gameplay and only impact the visual aspect of the game. So why shouldn’t they be permanently and independently accessible, no matter where you are? It could be similar to tattoo parlors or auto body shops. When you’re traveling, you can get a tattoo anywhere or take your car to any shop to change the color. Wouldn’t it be great if we had a similar service for ship skins on space stations? Solution Approach: One possible solution could be for stations to offer this service, allowing players to change skins at foreign hangars outside of the home base. This could come with an in-game fee, while skin changes at the home station would remain free. That way, we could adjust our skins whenever we want, without needing to plan hours of travel just to make a change. Another idea could be expanding the instanced hangars, which already include cargo lifts and terminals. We could introduce another terminal where players could change ship skins. This could either be done directly through the MobiGlas or via a dedicated paint terminal in the hangar, where the player can "purchase" the skin change. This service could work similarly to the other terminals in the hangar or the rental/ship purchase terminals in cities and stations. Questions: What’s the reason ship skins aren’t globally accessible? Are there technical or design-related limitations that prevent this? Is it possible to find a solution that allows us to change skins at any space station or system that offers this service? Could a paint terminal in hangars and stations be a viable solution? It would be a great improvement if we could change our skins anytime and anywhere, without needing to spend hours traveling just to make a small change.
