Since the introduction of the missile mechanic, locking & firing missiles, regardless of size, type or weapon platform, has involved little more than 2 button presses. This is a trivial level of skill that demands almost nothing from the player. Because the player needs to make only basic decisions, player agency is barely involved. Such a mechanic is neither intellectually nor physically demanding. Some time ago, a dev mentioned that the missiles mechanic will be re-designed to include more player agency. My questions are as follows: 1) Will the missile mechanic ever be redesigned to require more player agency than trivial 2 button presses to lock & fire? 2) If so, kindly provide details (general or specific) as to the nature of the re-design, to the extent that you are able. 3) Will a missile mechanic re-design apply to missiles fired from small combat ships, only large combat ships, or both? 4) Has CiG considered adding a lock/fire mechanism that includes a skill-based reticle system? (Although I do not speak for anyone but myself, anecdotally I believe the reticle system is favoured by many combat veterans who have experienced the missile system since its inception.) Any insight would be welcome.
