This is my third iteration on my personal pit - and it's a process on its own as well. The initial goal for this was to build something that I could duplicate for some friends at a very low cost. My first one was a PVC design, which looked cool, but would have costed more than I wanted this to be. Mk II was much cheaper, being made out of scrap wood or cull lumber, but it ended up being very heavy. Mk III has a frame almost entirely of scrap steel studs (same cost of lumber, but much lighter and needing more reinforcement points). I'm currently fighting that battle. Side tables are designed to hold 4 periphs - on my personal rig it holds, from left to right, gamepad (L), HOTAS (L), Stick (R), Mouse (R), with the keyboard on a center pull out tray. Throttle quadrant mounted to the desk. I've built into the right arm a power switch (on a dedicated power supply), light switch, and switch for my VRC (Voltage Regulator Controller) that I can use as dimmers for lights or speed controllers for fans. The right table has a chamber with a fan mounted underneath to direct air directly across my lap which is invaluable in the summer. I made a tinted plexi-window to cover it because it's fun to see the circuits and other lights I've added inside. The elbow has a comfy pad for long sessions. The left table will be built similarly. Both side tables are mounted to the chair frame with long tool magnet bars (free from Harbor Freight) and each of the three pieces are on their own polyurethane casters for smooth quiet moving around. Getting in and out is easy by simply pushing/prying one of the side tables off the magnet. I plan on adding some skin to the frame in some places, adding a usb hub on the left table, painting most everything black, and of course, more lights :slightly_smiling_face:
