This thread is intended for open discussion on Tactile Transducers (Bass Shakers). To kick it off I started looking into this after seeing them being used in the Sim Racing community, where it's taken off decently - to the point of having specialty software to run the transducers (pulling data from the game itself). I looked at the generically available PC products (Buttkicker Gamer 2 - none available currently - should be available latter this year). These didn't fit my design requirements: Design Reqts: Stage one - Seat in Stereo - differentiate between left and right sides - when I'm getting hammered on the port side I want to get a sense of it on the port side Stage two - Pedals - center channel Stage three - LFE - mono possibly looking for some bigger punch at times The setup needs to be solid - not looking to turn the chair into a sound board Needs to be as quite as possible for use with headphones After researching what was out there (and it's limited) I settled on a pair of ADX Maxiums Transducers and a Dayton Audio APA 150 Amp (capable of stereo) - I figured if it doesn't work I could put in on a couch and it wouldn't be a loss. Parts were bought through Parts Express out of Ohio. I fabricated some mounts (Aluminum Plate Sandwich to work around the fasteners on the chair) - Signal was split from the sound card l/r front channel and hooked to the amp. At this point I've met my requirements for stage one, it definitely works in stereo, side hits register to the appropriate side in game. At this point it is not excessive, it adds to the immersion, you get used to it quickly and notice it not on if it isn't running. I do notice some odd sounds in game (sounds are not consistent) at this point that don't make a lot of sense (not overly distracting but they get you to start thinking). In regards to wasting money, this is intended as a test (pushing the limits), any equipment procured for this effort can always be used in the home theater setup should things not work out as intended (ie no further benefit gained from phase to phase). Chair is a DXRacer, cables are temporary - I have some Neutrik connectors to handle this that will go from the chair to control console. At this point I'm going to chase after Stage two - Build an isolated plate for the rudder pedals and mount a center channel. I'll be changing over to some other transducers (lower range) for the chair as well. I'll update the current status shortly, actually have some ButtKicker Advanced Transducers in shipping.
