Hello, my fellow Citizens! In January I took on the endeavor to build not only a sim cockpit setup but to take it a step further and build a full interior of a spaceship of my design. Please be aware, that this is not going to happen overnight, and just about 90% of the build outside of the products purchased for gameplay are getting designed and created by me. I will do my best to not only answer questions but also assist anyone who may want to use parts of my build. It will consist of a mix of wood framing, finish cabinetry work, 3d printed materials, metal fabrication, software development, and a decent amount of AV skills lol. My professional background consists of vinyl wrapping vehicles & airplanes, civil and software engineering, custom home building, and metal fabrication, which all will be used in aspects. So get ready for a long one! :slightly_smiling_face: I'll update this as I progress. Winter is finally ending and I can start construction on the main building soon. In the meantime, I will continue with the AutoCAD designs for different components. Just about everything I make will be shared for free on the opensource platform Github @ https://github.com/Lpaladini90/ThatSimShip Notable mentions behind the idea : The thought process of the dashboard is to hover just above the seat. Slightly above that, the slanted section will house the touchscreens that wrap around the pilot. (These will contain the usage of my custom MFDs for more immersive gameplay that I am developing, as well as soundboards, lighting, and airflow controls) Flight controls will rest on the lower section displayed in the photo and are fully adjustable for maximum comfort and function. The Center Mount will allow for a center flight control/joystick OR a small touchscreen monitor depending on the application/game. The Seat will be on a sliding rail system, that will allow the pilot to enter the seat facing away from the cockpit. Once engaged it will pivot 180 degrees and slide into the saved position for the pilot on board. Attached to the seat will be pivotable mounts for 3D Space Mouses/ Touchball and keyboards. (This idea is still floating as to attach it to the seat or the cock pit.) Future project ideas I will be designing and building : 2 Cockpits and 2 support stations ( future events ) -Fully Functional Airlock -PC Unit disguised as a power management system -Projection Display Setup -Floating/Rotating Botanical Garden -Messhall -Armory Wall Storage Mounts Below is the 2D file I am working on and getting ready to transition to the 3D version. Always love to hear any tips, tricks, and feedback that anyone wants to comment :slightly_smiling_face: Prior to finishing the 2D design, I quickly mocked up a base at a resting height of 22" to get a better physical feel and understanding of how I wanted the cockpit to be set up with control comfort. By no means is this the setup, so ignore all hardware, monitor placement etc please, but I posted a picture of that as well. Until the next post, be safe, and see you in the Verse'!
