I recently switched from DVI to DP and am now rediscovering all the annoying reasons why I held off for as long as I could. (Beginning with the PC not booting up if my monitor is turned off (even just soft-offline) and the BIOS option that has existed for ages to not stop on missing display being absent from my fancy mainboard UEFI.) I observed two oddities with Star Citizen that I suspect might be related to this, so I'd be glad for some testing. (I can't do more tests right now; too busy with other stuff.) So if you run a single monitor via DisplayPort (HDMI testing welcome, too), try turning your monitor off (as said, not via main switch, just via button, if available) in the following moments: ● Right before running the launcher ● Immediately after initiating the launcher start ● Right before launching the game ● Immediately after launching the game Here I observed the game throwing an error about no valid display device found (but it might be a Linux thing, that is to be determined, too) ● Right before initiating entering the PU. ● Right after initiating entering the PU. Here I experienced doing either one or the other leading to the game doing nothing. I triggered PU enter and turned the monitor off and went away for a couple minutes and when I returned and turned the monitor back on, the game was still at 0 entities and almost immediately started loading them in. As so often, older stuff was more intelligent. DVI always maintains a valid display as long as a device has a cable connected. But if you turn a DP-connected monitor off, often the software is like "Oops, where did my output device go??". (Don't get me started about multi-monitor setups with this, with all the fun of auto-swapping default displays and changing desktop resolutions. Ugh.) I guess adapting GPU-DP to monitor-DVI isn't a solution either because it would still be treated as a DP device.
