Hey everyone, I wanted to share something I’ve been troubleshooting for a while, in case it helps other players who are experiencing very long freezes (minutes) or even “permanent” freezes in Star Citizen. This is not a formal bug report and not an accusation against either CIG or Windows — just an integration edge case that might affect some systems. It is also the outcome of my personal analysis and, as such, it may be incorrect, but I think it is suggesting something worth trying if you suffer from similar issues. What I was seeing They were not short stutters, but extremely long freezes (minutes), sometimes never recovering. In this last extreme case they may end with a game crash. CPU/GPU not marginal on performance (50% load each) Sometimes Alt+Tab would magically unfreeze the game, sometimes it wouldn’t What finally fixed it (for me) Disabling CPU core parking on Windows 11. After doing that, I’ve played multiple long sessions (including bounties and combat) with zero freezes. Why I think this happens (high-level explanation) Star Citizen seems to use a very custom engine and job system. From what I could observe, some synchronization seems to happen in user space, not always through classic Windows kernel wait primitives (events, mutexes, etc.). On modern (last generation) mobile CPUs on Windows 11 systems with aggressive power management Windows seems to decide to park CPU cores if it sees no runnable threads from its point of view If a game thread is waiting via custom user-space mechanisms, Windows may have no kernel signal telling it “this core will be needed again soon” Result: the core can stay parked indefinitely blocking an important SC's task that performs jobs upon requests from the main thread. Once this happens -> here we have those very long freezes. The interesting bit: When I pressed Alt+Tab, sometimes the game resumed immediately. My interpretation is that Alt+Tab schedules GUI / input threads, and if one of those happens to wake the same core, the parked core comes back and the game continues. If everything runs on other cores, Alt+Tab does nothing and the freeze stays forever. That behavior was the big “aha” moment for me. I don’t think this is nor a Windows bug or a Star Citizen issue, it looks more like an integration mismatch: Windows expects kernel-visible wait states the engine expects cores to remain available Individually both are valid designs; together they can produce pathological freezes on some systems. I’m posting this purely as a heads-up. If you’re getting long or infinite freezes that don’t look like classic GPU or server issues, disabling core parking might be worth checking. Hope this helps someone else — it took me a long time to connect the dots :slightly_smiling_face: Cheers, S
