Hi Guys! So, for a long time I've been running SC on a very old machine (circa 2011). This was a very high end build for the time (i7-2700k, 16GB RAM etc) which had the graphics card replaced in 2017 with a 1080 Ti and moved to SSDs at around the same time. This machine was still running EVERYTHING I threw at it on High+ settings at good performance rates. Except Star Citizen. Anyway, it was starting to have a couple of problems with the machine, and I have a lot of time on my hands the last few weeks, so I decided an upgrade as in order. I replaced everything except the graphics card (i7-10700k, top tier MB, 64 GB top tier RAM etc. I'm surprised to see however I'm not really seeing anything of a performance increase in SC (mostly still around 30 FPS in general and less in cities etc). Now, my laptop, an end-of-2018 Razer Blade runs SC much better, despite now having inferior hardware in every category. I had presumed before that the much more modern processor was making the difference. So I really feel like I'm missing something here. The main obvious thing is that my desktop is 4k, however turning down the resolution appears to offer no tangible difference in performance at all. Is there something I'm missing? With regards to 4k maybe that's just the best I can hope to expect, but if so is there a solution for reducing resolution while increasing performance? Does anyone have a similar setup, and what kind of performance are you getting? Other than moving from a 10 series to a 20 series graphics card (which checks of performance testing online show to be small margins) I'm about as high end as is possible on the current market so it's disappointing to still have such low performance.
