I've been encountering a lot of issues recently with SC freezing shortly after logging into a server. While trying to troubleshoot, I found myself wondering if it may have something to do with video card power draw. I've had this system built for quite a while now, and have never run into problems. I'm very good at worrying (I have an anxiety disorder) and I'm thinking that an issue with a faulty/stressed connector or something equally trivial may be causing the card to draw too much current momentarily. I don't think this is the case, because my power supply should easily handle the system requirements. But there's always that nagging voice in my head wondering "what if?". I recently switched to using borderless windowed mode, which is what I initially suspected was the problem. After that, I wondered about general SC installation goodness/shader cache/general bugs. I think what I'm going to do is wipe my boot drive and perform a fresh install of Windows. I know this possibly the hammer when the scalpel is called for, but I'm lazy. My question is this: if the video card was drawing too much power and causing the system to freeze, it should cause the whole system to freeze, not just SC, right? I can't imagine it compromising just one application. Here are my system specs for reference: 2080 Ti (250 W) Ryzen 9 3950X (105 W) 64GB DDR4 1 x 1TB PCIe 4 NVME 1 x 2TB PCIe 4 NVME Corsair HX1000 1000 Watt PSU.
