Welcome Citizen. You are probably here, because EAC just told you "Please remove <SomeFileName> before starting the game.". FIRST of all: Breathe! Relax! Do not act rashly! There is no point ruining your system by impatience. Second of all: If you're surprised by EAC blocking you, do NOT feel ashamed. It is not your fault, that someone found an exploit for one of our system files. There may be people telling you "uninstall the cheats", not realizing that if you had cheats on your computer, you would not be baffled right now. So, let's continue working on this constructively. Now the fact remains, that one of your system files may be exploitable, and even if it is not for playing SC, it is a situation that you might want to remedy for the safety of your system. Third of all: BE AWARE: This guide is for advanced users. (If you're not an advanced user, walk away now and ask someone to kindly help you.) I've written this guide as a private person for other private people, based on the experiences on my PC, while using my AI to help out with the scripting. Things might work differently on your PC. Also, I might have made mistakes. Therefore, doing any, each, and/or all of the steps in this guide, or even just a partial step, might fry your PC, lose data, and/or both, and/or might cause other things not mentioned, even if you do it the way I write! To be clear: You follow this guide ON YOUR OWN RESPONSIBILITY and AT YOUR OWN PERIL ! With all the above points in mind, let's dig in: This guide is structured in several parts and it's way too long for a single Spectrum post. Therefore i will reply to myself in this thread, and will point to and from the replies. Before we continue, there are two IMPORTANT reminders: * When you replace information in a PowerShell snippet like <Some Name>. It is paramount that you replace that some name INCLUDING the pointy brackets <> and WITHOUT touching anything else. * When you COPY PASTE PowerShell snippets, make sure to copy paste them INCLUDING the leading and trailing BLANK LINES. (The leading one to avoid stray code from the initial command line, the trailing one to instantly execute and not accidentally enter stray code yourself.) A. EDIT: Sorry guys, I've worked on this for like a week, to help y'all out. But I now would have 15 more paragraphs to post, and Spectrum is currently so wonky, I needed three hours for only these few lines. I have RL stuff to do and can't spend two additional evenings on this. The two fixes above ought to work as they are, that's why I included the beginning of D. . In regards to E. Cleanup: at least on my PC that was only cosmetics anyway, but if anyone needs that to fix the EAC issue let me know. If anyone still needs the manual service removal, or the forensic scripts that I've prepared, to find out where the questionable services originally came from, let me know.
