Vulkan used to kill my FPS Inspired by the fact that CIG are going to discontinue DX11 and something that caught my attention about Vulkan's performance issues being related to VRAM in a video by tenpoundfortytwo I took another go at a more thorough attempt to make Vulkan work for me. I did once again what I did before, to lower my settings to at or below recommended vram usage, but this time in combination with a deleted shader cache folder and waiting in the menu for the compiling to finish. What makes me really sad thugh is that one of the main sacrifices I have to make is texture quality. In DX11, going above available VRAM would mostly just result in the occasional hiccup from what I could tell, which I was fine with. With Vulkan my FPS would almost get cut in half though so now even with reshade the game looks a lot mushier than I would like. There are also weird slowdown and speedup situations that don't get picked up by the in-game FPS info for some reason, but they only happen in certain space combat mission spots, so I don't know how related that is. And while the lighting is a lot nicer, Vulkan-exclusive texture bugs sometimes do kill the beauty. My Specs: RTX 3070 (8gb VRAM) AMD 5800X3D 32gb DDR4 3200mhz Samsung NVME SSD So go ahead and try this if you couldn't make Vulkan work for you: Set API to Vulkan and adjust the visuals to your liking without exceeding VRAM recommendation. Quit the game and the launcher. Find the shader cache folders for the installation you want to play and delete it. (Launcher might not do it.) Hop into the game but stay in the first menu until compiling is done.
