Hello I'm VforVolx and Ive been playing star citizen since around 3.14 so i had my fair share of troubleshooting and finding workarounds in-game and some with general Star citizen related issues. Ever since ~ 4.5 was released i encountered errors 5007/ 5008/ 5017, which for me was game braking. Basically when an update dropped it was a 50/50 chance it'll appear (some updates worked some didn't). looking up the errors led to forums and video guides about them but nothing ever worked besides fresh install, and that too, sometimes needed multiple attempts. I'm writing this as this is the 10th or so times I had to fresh install the game so, I'm gonna sum up what I've learned and tho i am yet to solve it (besides fresh install), I may have found some possible workarounds which fixes it for some people. At first it would let me update the game, which is 80gb base data.p4k + game Live package = 145gb~ for the game on the drive post-install. During the update, one of these errors would appear randomly and cancel the download. Sometimes if I'm lucky, trying again would continue the download for a bit and pop again. Ive noticed that during some files, the amount of download left would randomly rise again, and later one of these errors pops after massive download speed drop. If not lucky, at the stage of attempting to download manifest I'd get an instant error from the launcher. At this state verifying files also leads to instant crash. Only deleting the game completely can fix it at this point. While troubleshooting for possible fixes i tried many things. clearing launcher cache, changing folder Live to PTU/hot-fix and changing it back, using a different drive (this error is apparently common with Samsung m.2 SSD drives), manually setting DNS to 1.1.1.1/ 8.8.8.8 in internet connection settings, different networks, turning firewall on and off, latest windows and GPU update, windows reinstall+ upgrade to 11, limiting internet connection to ip4v (disabling ip6v completely) and force editing a line into windows registry (source: https://www.reddit.com/r/starcitizen/comments/1t8cvw0/possible_fix_for_star_citizen_error_code_5007/ ). Some of these suggestions helped some users but not for all. My PC specs are: Windows 11 64bit, Intel i5 8700kf, z390 d-motherboard ,32gb ddr4 ram, Geforce 3060, 2* sandisk SSD's: 500gb plus and 1t plus. (C:// and E://). The reason the D:// drive is missing is because I had an older HDD I got rid of 2 months back (so I'm pretty sure its irrelevant because I did a fresh install last week-twice for 4.9) and today I have the same error after the 5gb update dropped. Launcher logs showed that it was trying to pull a file from D:// drive which is non existent : "ERROR: Error in function: LoadPakFile_v1\nFile: D:/sc/main/CryEngine/Code/Tools/CigDataPatcher/Lib/cig_data_patcher/src/CCigPakFile.cpp\nLine: 1744\nDesc: Central Directory Position not found.\n" }, " (taken from log.logs launcher file). I am yet to find a way to overcome this error, but some of the stuff i mentioned did work for some of the community. At some point I'm going for new AMD build (never had AMD before but been thinking about it for a while as next PC build), so if it still occurs on a new PC in the future, this post could be good as reference as to what changed and potentially fixed the issue. For now all I can offer is tips for proper fresh install that lets me update the game and play (until another patch drops: 50/50 chance for the error to appear again). The times the update did work, these conditions were met: Windows firewall(off), limiting launcher concurrent download setting to 10/15/20(depends on you're internet connection) with download speed limit set to 20000 KB/s, internet connection DNS set to either 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8. Backup data.p4k (this is why i mentioned the 80gb base pack). after each reinstall that's the only file you'll need for next reinstall since they always went smooth for me in all the times i made the game work. How to back it up: wait for the launcher to finish downloading the first 80 GB, it will show downloading manifest. at this stage close the launcher (including in task bar) and copy the file as a backup for yourself, then reopen launcher and let it update to live version. In case you need to reinstall again, that's 80gb's less then what you'd have to download. (can maybe zip the file and upload it if enough people will find it useful).
