I want to say I'm the same as many other fans of the game, waiting for this game to come out for many years. and I will still continue to support the game. Going to space is my dream, and SC is the closest thing I can get. I'm listing a few things that happend during the mining routine for the past few weeks, some of the things seems small, sinec it's alpha, people might not care, but I hope those things don't go into official release. 1. can't get up from the bed, quickly. half of the time I can't get up from the bed by pressing "F" forward key, I need to get up by other options. this usually indicates there is something weird going to happen on this run. 2. elevator door opens, and it's all black. and it kills. My instinct tells me, this is not a place to want to get into. so I usually call another elevator. and for once I wanted to try what will happen if the steps into the black, and it turns out kind of interesting, I fall through the space station( I was at Arc L1 station), and I was in EVA state. and stuck there. 3. lost connection, lost cargo I do mining at least once a day. and 90% of the day, I will experince lost connection, and after login again, my ship needs to be claimed (9 minutes wait, not too big of a deal, just anouying), but my cargo is gone. since it's alpha, it's fine. don't make it into release. I don't know the best way to compensate the player after connection lost, but losing stuff to player is unacceptable, especially the stuff needs spending time and effort to acquire. I don't think I need to talk about my internet connection bandwidth or provider. connection lost is expected, even if you are in Korea, it's just least often. but losing things for connection lost is not suppose to happen.and this won't be the first game to solve this issue, for compensating players after connection lost. 4. can't login to persistent uniervse. "bad text, missing info" usually, after a connection lost, attempting login again will be greeted by "bad text, missing info" screen, where player clicks "Visit Location" to start playing. and this usually means I need to quite the game, and do something else for half an hour or so, and come back. If I didn't wait longer, and try starting, no amount of login/logoff, task manger kill, restart windows, rebooting router will fix it. only time will fix it, maybe some bad state at the server side gets expired in x minutes, or other players are experiencing the same and the server gets less busy so I can login. 5. getting impounded at Area18, after a normal landing. need more feedback on what happened. SC players know, landing is one of the hardest thing to learn for the first a few days of being a newbie. and now I do landing a few dozen times a day, and it's getting pretty good.but landing on area 18 to sell stuff at TDD, is still a myth, for my freelancer max. getting 5000 fine, is not nice. but the painful thing is not knowing what's to improve. there is no feedback on what went wrong. and this happens a lot. I know there is enough info at game dev level to log everything that happens in the game play level. this log needs to surface in some form to left user know what just happened, especially during alpha, where lots of werid things happened for no apparent reason. you can call it "ship log" (could be a separate button on F11 screen, or a message in mailbox, or anything). for suddent death, "personal log" will do, since in the game, a player's health is being monitored all the time. walking outside the station without your helmet on kills you, no problem, very realistic. but tells the player what happened in someway. 6. general UI upgrade. UE as well. I understand that this game still needs time. but I flipped through the roadmap, and I haven't seen much about UI upgrade anytime soon, maybe it's a not a big enough item to be listed. I mean this game is an expensive game to play. the ship is beatufully designed, and the station, and so on. when I first opened up ship's HUD, it's like in the 90s, wireframe style HUD, hmm, not so sexy. squad42's HUD is a bit better, maybe the plan is to move over the code from 42 over? and upgrade from there? by UE I meant user experience, related to UI. I assume there will be lots of in game tutorials, training programs, etc for newbies for the official release, and UE will dramatically improve. 7. animation transition, gives a bit motion sickness, at some situation. there are many little cute animations for triggered events, like getting up from the bed, climbing ladders and so on. I assume the design behind it is to boost immersion. but at some occasions, it gives motion sickness. like on the Mole mining ship, getting down and up to the main mining turret from the upper deck, is very cool at first, but I watch the animation with full atention afterwards, since my body isn't moving so much with the animation and my view is first person view. classic VR issue. this is the big and small things I experienced during the month. hope the game will be successful.
