Edited July 29, 2026 DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG STATUS_CRYENGINE_GPU_CRASH(0x2BADFF59) Vulkan AFTERMATH Vulcan or Upscaling nvidia 4080 driver issues with DX or Vulkan. https://support.robertsspaceindustries.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000081887-Guide-to-Graphic-Issues Install Vulkan Manually: https://vulkan.lunarg.com/sdk/home#sdk/downloadConfirm/latest/windows/vulkan-runtime.exe (choose the runtime installer) This install does not fix errors with Vendor drivers or SC experimental implementation of Vulkan features. Crashes of ALL kinds are found in the LAST 20 LINES ONLY of the game.log file. Each game install has its own log this may include: \Live, PTU. EPTU, HOTFIX, TECH-PREVIEW, etc. How to report log file crash message: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/51473/thread/diagnosing-game-crashes "GPU crash message: [...(0x887A0005) DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED The GPU device instance has been suspended. The most up-to-date version of DirectX is 12.0 and it is required that your GPU is not only up-to-date with DirectX 12, but also compatible with it." SC currently requires 11.1 which is not available in DX11. o USE DXDIAG application in Windows to check DirectX compatibility of CARD AND OS. o Roll back/update GPU driver including manufacturer clean up utility. o Disable HAGs (Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling.) o Adjust the power level. The card is either not getting enough power or it is overloading the PSU. o "The anti cheat makes it where you cant do priority (high) normally you have to create a registry key for it to do it." STATUS_CRYENGINE_GPU_CRASH(0x2BADFF59) Aftermath and Vulkan: GPU GCard problem. Overclock, thermal, driver, AFTERMATH? If Aftermath is the problem you will have to uninstall the AM SDK you might have been using when you had an nvidia card. Aftermath is a developer tool not needed by the average person. Disable all other GPUs (on-board or other) but primary. Star Citizen will stress hardware harder than other games or stress testers. If the card cannot be pushed near it's limits without failing the fault needs to be addressed. Heat, power (too much, too little) cabling etc. Sometimes a driver revert to earlier is necessary. Graphics software removal: https://www.tomshardware.com/how-to/uninstall-nvidia-amd-intel-gpu-drivers AMD software removal tool: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-601 https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5FWAVe1km_g https://manual.notch.one/0.9.23/en/docs/faq/extending-gpu-timeout-detection/ Vulkan can be disabled to see if it is the cause: Screens crashing, distorted, distorted text, crashes on startup, etc.: If Vulkan enabled, disable it. If upscaling enabled, disable. Check graphics driver version. Return to D3D renderer from Vulkan: %localappdata%\Star Citizen\sc-alpha-3.23....\GraphicsSettings\GraphicsSettings.json edit "GraphicsRenderer" to value 0 and save 1 = Force Vulkan. OR... Delete the file for D3D. Upscaling can cause distortions or UI issues. Disable in ESC OPTIONS. Bearded-CIG: "Digest ID is one of the most useful things to include when reporting a client crash to someone at CIG because it will allow us to locate the crash dump associated with what someone ran into. The exception type is super useful for people in these forums to have an idea of how to help in the event that it's not something CIG can fix."
