I tried to get back into Star Citizen recently and I'm noticing very sluggish performance with objects disappearing and reappearing at random. Some NPCs don't fully render, either, leaving just a floating head and hands. The launcher tells me I don't meet the system requirements, but the game still seems to boot up just fine. Did a recent update change the requirements of the game? Or is there something on my PC that isn't up to spec but looks like it should be? My setup: Motherboard: ASRock P67 Extreme4 Gen 3 CPU: Intel i7-3770k RAM: 24GB DDR3 1600 GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1660 5GB GDDR5 Task Manager shows my CPU being completely maxed out while SC is running even though I was under the assumption it should be up to the task (based on advertised system requirements.) I was going to look into overclocking it later, but I wanted to make sure that there wasn't something else that was causing the excessive CPU load first. My attempts to look into this suggested that SC is forcing itself into CPU rendering on low, so I turned the settings all the way up and there was an improvement. The CPU is still being maxed out, though. I know my setup is a little bit older, but it hasn't run into any issues with other recent games I play. What frustrates me is that I built this PC specifically for Star Citizen years ago and it seems like it's being left behind as the specs for this game creeps ever upward. I was already planning to overclock my CPU soon, but I recently found out that Ivy Bridge cores apparently don't handle overclocking well so I'm trying to figure out how high I can overclock it safely. I'm not able to afford to build a new computer at this time and that is the highest rated CPU available for my motherboard. EDIT: Apparently this is a performance issue that is specific to Windows 7. Through some settings tweaks discussed, the game can be made tolerable planetside. Once I'm in space, everything runs fine. I'll deal with the performance issues until I can get SC to run on Linux.
