Adding this guide for those interested in running SC to almost any remote device (macOS, Linux and Windows), without using Steam or RDP. I have a well stacked Windows PC just for SC, however I use a Mac Pro for work/personal and wanted to run SC on it and not be switching PCs or moving between desks. I also like to have the freedom to move around the house and play wherever I want so I also use my laptop (MacBook pro). I tried Steam (had mouse spinning issues) and also tried Remote Desktop (RDP) with similar problems related to the mouse causing my character to spin like crazy even though the menus worked perfectly fine. RDP is a protocol focused more on business than gaming and it transmits absolute mouse movements and this doesn't work well with some 3D games like SC. So I started testing Moonlight and Sunshine to see how far I could go with these. They work great (so far). No issues with mouse. I am running Sunshine on my Windows 11 (host) which has SC. Sunshine supports Nvidia, AMD and Intel GPUs for hardware encoding. Moonlight is installed on the client side and it's available for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, Xbox, and others. I'm still fine tuning it on the webgui, the graphics and colors, etc, trying to understand both sides (host/client), but so far the result are much better than what I got with Steam and RDP. One thing to have in mind is that with DisplayPort and some HDMI if you turn off the actual monitor (host) then it also turns off the remote display (related to some windows energy thingy). To circumvent that then use a (HDMI or DisplayPort) monitor emulator plug (around $8 from amazon). I got 1080P which I consider great for streaming and faster response, and I setup Sunshine to point to \\.\DISPLAY2 (Display1 is my DisplayPort and Display 2 is my HDMI port). I can install Moonlight anywhere, so now if I'm downstairs in the sunroom with my MacBook or upstairs in the loft with my iPad or on my mac pro in my home office I can run SC and play without having to be locked in one specific room where SC installed. My flow: Turn on the main pc (host) that has SC installed Run Sunshine (on host) Run Moonlight (remote device) Turn off monitor (host) Start SC from Remote device. By no means am I an expert. Just sharing what I've been able to do to run this fantastic game we all enjoy. Please let me know if you have circumvented any issues or have improvements.
