Let me tell you a strange story about a computer issue... I dont know too much about computers so I had to take it to the local store and even they have no clue. Maybe this is something that has happend to one of you and maybe you have some insight. I would apprechiate any help. But let me go back to the beginning: So there I was, 2 weeks ago. Happy with my i7-8700K with, 32MB RAM and GTX 1070Ti. Nothing special about it (other than maybe that I am permanently using Windows visual upscaling at 140%). Everything was working ok and then I installed Windows update KB4601554 (I think that was the one) and from there, things started going weird. I only noticed the next day when I was launching Steam. Now Steam is set to launch in Big Picture mode wich I like. However, this time when I clicked on the icon... nothing happend. Or to be more exact, thats what it looked like. I tried again. Nothing. When I realised that this is bigger than a busted mouse I found out that it was not only Steam. Games that I launched from the Epic Games store were not working either. Neither was Star Citizen. Some more investigating with my limited knowledge of computers found that Steam WAS actually running in the backround... at least that is what the Task Manager said. I just didnt see anything and there was no icon in the systems tray as it usually would be. Likewise, when I tried to launch a game through the Epic Games launcher again, I was told that game was already running. Again, nothing on my screen. Star Citizen seemed to hang itself on the splash screen with no feedback. I did some googling and tried to roll back the update but nothing worked. I know I had reached the limits of my abilities and had to take the computer to the shop. (Side note: I know even the "professionals" are not perfect and often know less than we may think but this is a small store and not some faceless chain. I have been their customer for more than 20 years so i trust they know what they are doing). This is where things get a bit complicated with an unnecessary detour: The guy at the store had to delete my Windows profile and set up a new one. I lost some settings that I had to redo but that was about it. One of the side effects of that was that Steam was reset to not launch in Big Picture mode... and that suddenly worked. Through Steam I could launch other games and they worked as well. Same with games launched through the Epic Games store. Everything was fine again. At that point i DID NOT try out Star Citizen, assuming that everythign was good. The guy at the store still didnt really know what caused the problem but it seemd it was fixed. At that point I started working on putting my settings back to normal. That included setting up Steam to launch in Big Picture mode. And what can I say ? Yes, you guessed it – it happend again. Steam wouldnt show, neither any other games. The guy in the store maanged to reset Steam so it wouldnt start in Big Picture mode and once again, everything worked.... well, again. Everything but Star Citizen. Since I didnt know what else to do, I simply uninstalled SC (following the instructions on the website) and reinstalled it again. I am not sure I did it all correctly because when I started the newly isntalled launcher it remembered my settings and all. And of course, it still did not work. So this is where I am now. The problem was resolved but was never really diagnosed. And Star Citizen will not work, stopping dead on the splash screen and giving no response. (I asked in forum cfhat if there was any larger issue with SC at the time. There was none) I thought I would bring this to the Star Citizen community and see what you guys think. Has anyone else encountered this issue ? Does anyone have any further insight ? Tips ? Helpful advise ? Ideas ? It goes without saying that any help in this matter would be greatly apprechiated. And if there is need for more info, I would happily give it.
