So, my current PC was built 6 years ago. It's starting to show its age. I had the free upgrade to windows 10 and did so when that was around with no problems. a couple of weeks ago the thing started to bog down in terms of FPS, I think Nvidia drivers were gumming up the system. Long story short, I wiped all of my drives and started with a fresh install of windows 7. I couldn't go back to 10 since the upgrade was a one time thing, so I had to buy windows 10 (which arrived yesterday). Things were working fine. Last week i decided to overclock the thing and while it worked for a time, it ended up failing later in the day (the thing just basically shut off)....no, i didn't run benchmarks or prime95 or anything, i know this was a mistake. Thankfully, I was able to get back into the bios and go back to the standard voltage and speeds and things are working normally. Yesterday my copy of windows 10 arrived and I thought I'd try to update the pc again as I know SC will not work on windows 7 and vulkan is only on 10 if i recall. So, during the install it failed 3 times in 3 tries with the same error, a common one apparently related to drivers as the error showed on the help page windows took me to. Nothing on this PC really changed outside of an external drive, which i disconnected for the second try. My question is, would a failed overclock attempt cause a driver error for a windows 10 upgrade? If so, I guess I should flash my mobo (remove the battery) and start over? should I try to boot from the windows drive and try to install fresh then reinstall my mobo drivers via the install cd? I know the PC can handle windows (and with the mobo drivers & bios) 10 as I was using it for a year. I know the experts may need some more info, i'll give it if I can, but I'm really looking for more of an overview of what could be wrong / if the overclock could have caused this error and if people think booting from the flash drive and installing fresh again could help. I figure worst case, is that if i wipe and windows 10 fails again, I should be able to just reinstall windows 7. THanks!
