I have been playing Cyberpunk since it’s release, I am about 9 hours in and am having a good time, but i have a few thoughts i would like to share. When i was awaiting Cyberpunks Release i watched the teasers and early reviews excitedly, I was very interested when i heard that you could interact with every NPC you came across, how would they even handle all that. When i played i was somewhat dismayed that interacting with NPC’s involved one dismissive line they would say as they kept walking, unless it was an NPC set up for a story, in some ways there is little difference between that and the NPC’s we have in Star Citizen currently. As well, the landscape is dotted with many little shops , most of which you can not interact with at all, leaving it feeling very much like a GAME , and not a city. Early in the game i decided to relax and go for a drive, In sandbox games i love the ability to go nearly anywhere, even accepting the consequences of my dumber decisions, but as i drove, i saw a message saying something like I was not ready to go there yet, and i abruptly teleported elsewhere, still driving . Gateing off areas due to level requirements is a normal thing in CRPG’s, but it certainly breaks immersion and just because it is normal , doesn’t make it good. I know there are areas in Star Citizen that i should not go, but i have gone there, seen broken geometry and now i appreciate not being teleported back to a “Safe” area. Speaking of teleporting, I went looking for the subway system, after i had my fill of driving a car with M+K, something that is never that fun for me, and found little boxes, that showed me a map of destinations i could fast travel to, clicking on one sent me to a load screen and teleported me there. I know this is a common game mechanic, but i wasn’t expecting it in Cyberpunk, unfortunately i believe Star Citizen has highlighted a lot of these mechanics , and shown me how terrible they are, it made me want to log on and just ride the crappy train at Lorville for a while. It is hard to think that the first Teaser for Cyberpunk came out about 8 years ago, about the same time as the Star Citizen Kick starter, people have complained continuously at how little development has actually occurred in Star Citizen in that time, yet i think Star Citizen has made comparable amounts of content, or even more than Cyberpunk, many things in Cyberpunk now feel like Tier 0 implementations. I will keep playing Cyberpunk , as i am currently having fun with it, but it just makes me more excited for everything in Star Citizen and everything that will be in SOON .
