Let me preface this by saying that I was never all that interested in Elite Dangerous. So I was somewhat understandably surprised when a certain video sharing site. Starting recommending me videos made by Elite Dangerous content creators. Curiously I watch one video, and then another, and then well you get the point. The reason for the videos being recommended quickly became apparent. It seems that the developer of Elite Dangerous is really bad, and that this really bad developer did a really bad thing to its customers. With its latest expansion of their game which I guess was trying to be a cheap Star Citizen knockoff. Anyway as for why the algorithm was recommending the videos to me. The content creators were spending an inordinate amount of time on Star Citizen. Okay that is more then a bit odd. The game you create content for. Just got a controversial expansion. So you talk about some other developers game. I watch Star Citizen content creators who might mention Elite Dangerous in passing once every blue moon. It doesn't really permeate into their conversations, and frankly it doesn't seem to concern their viewers. Well maybe I thought they are just envious. This game is starting to do good, their game is starting to do worse, and maybe they are feeling inferior. Well that sort of thing happening. Isn't exactly unheard of between games. Then today I got another recommendation. This time it was a video that was all of sixteen minutes long. About Elite Dangerous players moving over to the verse. You know the kind of video with a colorful referral code overlay. Okay so it seems somebody has seen the light, and has decided to switch out their game. Then I watched the video to completion, and thought to myself this is a bad thing. This guy seems to be choking back some serious bile, and something in him refused to let go of the ghost. So while trying to get referrals, and pushing Star Citizen on his viewers. He spends most of his video trash talking the game. Forget a sense of inferiority someone has a complex. It also isn't likely just this guy, but probably a sizable percentage of his audience, and he and them seem to be gearing up to migrate. As such the question I must ask is how will this community tolerate. A potential mass influx of frankly unhinged former antagonists? Folks who are irate over what their former developer did, who seemingly never wanted to play this game, and who are experiencing serious losers remorse. Sounds like a problem is brewing, and it wont for once be any of this developers doing. Like I said I watched a video today of a guy choking this game down, and him trying to get his audience to likewise choke this game down.
