A video that was shared with me by a (allegedly) senior software engineer from Amazon on one of the gamedev Discords I'm on. It's about corporate structures: Knowing how to sell products isn't the same as knowing how to make products that will sell. It's about questionable game engine choices (making it difficult for developers). It's about severe exploits (bugs/glitches). It's about virtual economy (unregulated and decentralized). It's about Hardcore PvP (how going for it in the first place may not be a good idea and then how "fixing" it makes it even worse). And don't get it wrong here. You can certainly have Hardcore PvP, but you it can't be just put into any kind of game design without eventually having the player base canibalize itself. I haven't watched content from this channel before, so I can't vouch for the validity of what is being said there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XA0lmyHoznU Allegedly (again) it's a fairly accurate summary of what went wrong there.
