Originally developed and published by Microsoft, this game was "the best game noone played" in 2000. A unique mix of tactical space sim and real time strategy. Microsoft closed the servers 2002 but released the source code in 2004 to allow the hardcore player base to continue this game (freeallegiance.org). I mention this now (Eclipse concept sale) because it has a very good implementation of stealth. E.g. in a stealth bomber you could remove your guns, switch your shield off and swap your bombs into the cargo hold to reduce the ship's signature. On the bombing run (on a station) the ship was detected late then but still outside the range of the bombs so you had to plan your approach and manage your systems. Ben mentioned something similar mounting guns on the Eclipse in Bensday. An anti-stealth element in Allegiance are sensor probes that can be dropped by scout ships to scan the vicinity. In this game the probes have a limited lifetime. I hope someone at CIG knows it. (@wcloaf ?)
