Because I already feel the hate coming, I'mma just say this: read the thread first: Man, so I just got done in a match about I'd say 5 minutes ago. For about two or three days now, I've been trying to do a challenge in the game, which is requiring me to get wins. The interesting about the challenge is that to get it when an apex going in randomly, it is very hard to get a win unless you are absurdly good at the game. The reason is because in order to win, especially against people who have formed groups before going in to play, a decent amount of teamwork has to occur between you and the rest of your squad to win. To break it down, there's three main parts: Characters Because of the way that respawn has designed the characters in Apex, there is a very high amount of synchronicity about the characters, that characters can very easily increase the power of each other, versus by themselves. You can very quickly steamroll other players if they don't understand how to use their characters properly, or aren't organized, provided that you and your team understand your characters very well. Having this knowledge is key to winning fights. Weapons Due to the varied amount of ranges that exist in Apex, as well as the balance of weapons, strength of weapons can vary depending on the situation that you are in. To put that on a macro level, knowing what your teammates, and even more so what weapons your enemies are using can very easily give you an advantage in a tactical sense, as you now know the effective capabilities of your squats total firepower at range, versus that of another's. using this information can, just like knowing about you and your squats characters allow you to steamroll other squads. Terrain This last one is sort of a force multiplier of the previous two. So in Apex, there's general engagement styles you can experience in certain area of any given map. A more closed-in, usually Outpost driven area, possibly a metropolitan area, a mountainous region, in wide open plains, possibly with a area that can be dangerous to the character. Using this terrain can flip a battle pretty quickly, and understanding engagement styles within certain types of terrain especially in relation to coordinating with your squad to use that terrain more effectively can increase the capabilities that you have, allowing you to steamroll others who are less organized or knowledgeable about the terrain. If you notice the trend, there's three given things that is a common denominator: awareness, prior knowledge, and coordination. I would say that I live the three in Apex, coordination is the largest multiplier. Let me give you a couple examples to show you what I mean: The very game before the one that I won, I was playing with two guys who were listening to me the entire game, and it ended up being that they engaged in an area in which case they did not have the range to actually engage (they're using SMGs across a very large distance against people with DMRs and snipers). They had also engaged when a large group of squads started converging on that one location, and due to these two, we ended up being put in the middle, and all died. The very next game, both of my squat meets listen to me the entire way, as I led them through the battlefield, using my speakers to figure out where battles were going on around us so we can avoid most of the battles, and collect loot so that we can be at the optimal condition for a fight. We ended up only engaging two squads, killed them both, and won the game because of it. On top of this, the two engagements that we had, they only lasted but a short bit, due to all three of us synergizing our abilities and weapons together to quickly annihilate our opponents. We would trap them in a location that they were terrible at engaging in due to their weapons, and quickly picked them up one by one using focusing fire. Now why am I saying all of this? Will simply put, I have never played PVP in any game that felt so organically tactical outside of Apex. and the reason why I believe this to be the case is because no game has driven home these three tactical design philosophies into every aspect of their game other than Apex. And the great thing about SC is that cig can one up them. in every sort of engagement that is possible in SC combat related, not only is there more options on what you can use to engage a person, there will be a lot higher variety of locations that they can go to, and assuming that cig balances things properly eventually, many of those things can be useful, and can synergize with other things to make them even more powerful (ex: using distortion anything to be able to open up vectors of attack). With all of this said, assuming that cig actually makes good on this, and makes a game that couldn't be as technical, if not more, and I believe they can, that can open up the doors to a lot of different good things. Imagine that people bought SC just for the sole reason of playing Star marine and related modes (Theaters of War), because it was known to be something that was a well thought out game that had this organic tactical feel to it, without trying to feel or seem forced? That would be crazy cool in my opinion. Okay, I'm done rambling. Blub
