At the risk of white-knighting for CIG, I think comparing SC or S42 to Starfield is...a little unfair. First off...Starfield is a Bethesda RPG. That it's an RPG is enough to stop comparing and contrasting to SC. I'm not super into RPGs, so I'm not sure I'll even play Starfield at all. Besides, it comes out around when 3.20 is supposed to release, and I'm honestly a bit more excited about the Arena Commander redux than I am about Bethesda's new Skyrim mod or whatever. I think SC has kind of ruined other action games and especially RPGs with major action components. In SC, I feel like my character is only as good as I am, the player. No matter how many ships I own, I'm not special. I can have the biggest, strongest ship in the game, but if I can't work well with others, I might as well be flying an over-sized Pisces. It's such an interesting MMO game where you can get things done by yourself, but I feel like you haven't really played SC until you've played with others (or against others!). So now when I play other games with leveling, skill trees, level-locked content, etc., I can't help but shake my fist at these arbitrary walls against my own path of progression. Additionally, I find it a bit insulting when games try to lure me in by attempting to stroke my ego. Y'all remember that clip in the Starfield direct presentation where your character is walking through the ship and the NPCs are nodding and referring to you as "captain"? That might be an appealing scene to people that want their game to place them on a pedestal and give them a chance to rule over bots (NPCs), but not for me. I don't want NPC crews. I don't care to rule over others, or hire people to work for me. Any game that tries to use power over others as a lure will immediately be last on my list to play. AND SECOND OF ALL...Starfield has been in development for something like 13 years by a well-established, major video game studio with multiple, successful titles released. Anyone saying CIG should take note, or be embarrassed by the pace of SC's development in comparison, clearly isn't considering what it takes to not only develop a game from scratch, but do it with a brand new company building the organizational infrastructure along the way. Anyway, sorry for the unhinged tone, but SC's backend seemed to be crashing and I got bored so y'all will just have to confront this post. Cheers!
