RECLAIMER: Im a PVP Dude and this is about PvPvE + a progression system that makes you want to PVP nonstop. Dark age of Camelot did it right. The core concept was Realm vs. Realm vsR ealm (RvRvR): Three Factions (Realms), each had their own PvE zones. One large, central PvP zone – the Frontier – containing Keeps and Outpusts (castles) and Relics. Owning and capturing these Relics made the entire Realm stronger. That was the ultimate objective in conquering and fighting. It was flawless. PvE raids could happen whenever you liked, while PvP Realm Zerging was happening at the same time. You liked solo stealthed or small grp PvP? No problem either; Rogue and Ranger classes had full stealth, and it worked perfectly. PvP and PvE coexisted perfectly, and PvP was so much fun. And If it wasn't because one Realm was just overwhelmingly strong that day, you simply went to PvE to get better gear, run raids, etc. I don't get why nobody up to this date has copied this concept. You could translate it to Star Citizen, and with this kind of PvP, I would be happy to participate regularly. Imagine: Massive Base Raids which hold artifacts to make your faction stronger in any way. Many smaller bases you can conquer to build a support line, harvest stuff etc. Interceptor and stealth squads camping common routes between those bases. That was Nr. 1 why DAoC was so successful in my opinion. The other one was the character progression through PvP: the Realm Rank (RR) system. For every PvP kill, you got Realm Points (RP), which slowly made you stronger, similar to Highlander (there can be only one!). Every rank gave you points to spend for interesting character progression, like Realm Abilities (RAs)—more attributes, better weapon accuracy, special abilitys etc. It was so, so engaging. It also got progressively harder to rank up. RR13 was the max. By RR10, basically everyone on the server knew you. So, even the PvE slacker got a really nice carrot dangling around to go do some PvP by joining the comfort of a Zerk and enjoy some large scale battles at any time. The Realm Rank System made me held the (daoc) line for 7 years on a daily base. I stopped playing at RR10Level3. RR13L10 was max i think. the Progression was just right. RR5 was somewhat easy and at this point you allready had some decent char-enhancement options to choose from. Some benefiting PVP, some PVE, some both. So the progression curve was somewhat exponential RR1L0 to RR5L0 was like RR5L0-RR6L0. Star Citizen is completely lacking something like this, but it would make it so much better. CIG: Dont force PVP on players. Let them decide when they want to do PVP and give them a good reason to do so at the same time. Even PVP Hater had RR5 at some time because it was just worth it without beeing overpowered. o7
