I've not been invited to the tech alpha, but seen some footage from Diablo 2 LoD speedrunner MrLlamaSC https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZcV8AWZ_nQvx0Yvnmy7aHw I prefer to watch speed runners because they know how to play the game with good pacing, showing off how dynamic the gameplay can be. Diablo 2 being part of of my adolescent years and having spent hundreds of hours I could have spend with something more productive, I'm obviously biased here. To me it's been looking good so far with very nice performance which makes it visually more fluent (while the entire simulation in the background is still lock stepped into 24FPS), that combined with the promised offline version that removes all internet latencies would make HC speedruns (or just regular HC gameplay) a lot or palatable on modern hardware. I'm almost certain that I'll buy this. But I'm still waiting with the pre-order since I've been burned before by Blizzard with Diablo 3. What are your thoughts here? Can the game mechanics from 21 years ago live up to the standards of today? Will the game manage to capture a good number of new players as well or is it more likely to remain a nostalgia product that is way more popular with people who liked the game 20 years ago?
