This is a question that was asked a lot when Starfield was officially announced, and to be honest I thought it was a silly question. Starfield isn't trying to replicate the realism of SC, it's a very different game. I continued playing SC and not paying too much mind to it, but something has happened, and I'm wondering what others think. For the last several months I can't really bring myself to play SC. I want to, I really do, but I've reached this point where I'm just totally worn down by the bugs, the grind, and the lack of any importance to anything we do. This feeling started not when I couldn't play SC for months because of all of the server issues of 3.19. I was actually excited to get back to playing after a forced couple of months break. I played for a bit, but something was just off. In the past, the wipes and constant bugs were bearable, but not anymore. I think the single biggest reason is that there is no point to anything we are doing in the game. There is no progression of any kind, so you would hope that you could at least build an armada of ships to have something to represent the many hours of grind. But that's pointless, next wipe, they're all gone. So then you live for the time until the next wipe, but that's a futile effort most of the time as well. Two of my last three 1.57 million aUEC cargo runs in my c2 ended with me losing all of the cargo and money it cost to buy to game bugs. It's not easy to make 3 million in SC, but it sure is easy to lose it. So I lowered my expectations even further and found that there is really nothing to do in this game. Sure there are plenty of dogfighting missions, but they are all the same things at various levels of difficulty. Deliveries....boring. Running Cargo...let's see how many times you can lose it all to a bug or game crash before you stop that game loop. Hull salvaging? Oh wait, they release a new feature that is only accessible to people willing to buy the vulture (I know you can steal one, but you are severely limited with it, so that doesn't count). The list goes on, but at the end of the day it just all feels like a pointless grind. Enter Starfield. I know it's not Star Citizen. It's scope is much smaller, but at some point you have to trade promises that are rarely kept by CIG for a fully fleshed game that you can actually play. No PTU drama, no "start a bunch of projects and finish very few of them", just a real space game that people can play. I'm watching the sentiment towards SC by its content creators, and that is also at an all time low. Salty Mike, Morphologis and others are just over it all. The money grubbing tactics and greed of CIG are the worst I've seen in gaming, and in return they offer you the least complete game you will ever play. Hell, people couldn't stop praising SpaceBourne II enough for being a game that does most of what SC does, and was created by 1 guy. My point is not that these games are apples to apples, my point is that people are so desperate to have a game that actually works, they are willing to play a game with terrible graphics, no voice acting, and something that does nothing spectacular, yet it is actually cable of doing all of these things with only a fraction of the bugs of SC, and an even smaller fraction of the frustration anyone that has ever played SC has felt. So I'm rethinking my stand on this. I do think it will put a big dent in SC. I think after a dozen years of unkept promises there is a large group of people ready to leave SC for a while and just enjoy playing a game. One day I'll come back to playing SC, but I don't think it will be for a very long time, based on the turtle's pace of development we've always seen out of CIG. What do you all think?
