CIG, World War 2 Online had a fantastic map system which literally integrated player teamwork into the game loop. SC needs this kind of map gameplay. In WW2OL, the players had access only to a map that showed terrain/buildings. The map never auto-generated vehicle or infantry or aircraft contact markers unless they were friendly. The players themselves had to pull up their maps and submit contact reports. The map UI had the option for player to report enemy infantry, armor, aircraft, anti-tank gun, vehicles (non-armor) and markers for things like 'danger' or 'cleared' or 'mortar', etc. These contacts would remain in the map for X minutes then start to slowly fade away..unless the person that issued the contact OR his party leader removed the contact manually. Player also had a field he could type a short text message about the contact. For example if I reported an armor contact on a hill 2km away I could type in '3 tanks: 1xpz3, 2xtiger rolling west' ... and anyone that saw the contact on the map could just mouse over the contact and the text would pop up. In SC this could be used in the MobiMap to set contacts and they would show on friendly player's own mobimap as well as their mini-map huds. Its a bit hard to find vids of people doing map contacts that are recent so the video is high definition.. here's a very brief one you may have to pause to look at the interface, etc. Just remember, this is a game from the year 2000 so obviously the UI is a bit clunky compared to what CIG could do with more modern tools.
