I am trying to remember the name of a video game from the late 90s/early 00s that I played on my PS1. It took place in feudal Japan and you could play one of 6 or 7 characters, each with their own unique fighting style and weapons, who were assasins trained at a mountain hideout. IIRC, one of the characters was a turn heel and killed the master. The other characters were tasked with discovering and hunting down and killing the turn heel. The story was kind of short and thin, but because you could play each character which would lead to different endings, the replay factor was high. I think that's how the plot went, but it was also over 15 years ago. Maybe 20? What made the game unique and interesting was that it was played in first person. I dont think there were a lot of FP swordplay games back then. It also strived for accuracy with single strike kills. There were no button mashing combos or health meters. It took skill to plan and aim your strike, and then be prepared to parry a counter strike. The mood and setting were artful and not at all hokey or corny. It was almost Kurosaki-esque in it's treatment. Any ideas? I'd love to see if if it's been ported over to PC.
