When you read: such and such, the next WoW killer? most of you immediately role your eyes, and say, oooh yea, that's been said before." And yes, a lot of MMORPG sales pitches included that phrase "WoW killer" but most of them ended up being in fact, WoW clones. So how could I say Star Citizen could be the REAL WoW killer you say? Well lets take a look at WHY WoW became as successful as it did. Now in case of WoW, Blizzard got lucky due to the already huge Warcraft RTS audience, but what made WoW a success in my eyes was a combination of two things: The Leveling Experience + Unique Player Interactions. Specifically, I wanted to look at WoW during the height of its popularity in between Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King. From level 1 to 60, players could look forward to cool new gear and abilities by grinding out on Quests, and in that time, players could come into contact with other players, group up, play together, complete dungeons and raids and build friendships, all of which made the players game sessions unpredictable and fun. From what we saw in the 2017 Gamescon demo, you can see the missions that players can look forward to completing, the money they can look forward to buying cool items with, and the random chances to find cool people to enjoy the game with and those random chances to create real friendships that span the globe. This is why I say Star Citizen COULD be the next WoW Killer. Sure SC is science fiction, and WoW is fantasy, so some people say you cant compare the two. But I am not talking about the genre. I am talking about the MMO aspect of it. Because WoW now has a major flaw. Blizzard, with some thanks to Activision, is becoming less and less of a social experience, and more of a single player like, quick grind fest for gear, in my opinion. Everybody now does the Dungeon Finder or Raid Finder, so players don't get those chances to create great friendships like you were forced to in Vanilla and Burning Crusade. Star Citizen on the other hand will, in some cases, "encourages" player interaction instead. Bringing back the chance for people to have these amazing experiences with other people that they will talk about for years to come. That's what made WoW great, and that is what will make Star Citizen great! I mean just look at the demo, and tell me this cant happen!
