So this looks to be the 50th eleventh thread about the recent release of the Starfield Trailer. So &%$ it I'll throw my unsolicited two cents into the ring. Starfield looks to be an interesting, well designed, beautiful game set in space with FPS combat, Ship-to-ship combat, exploration, mining, base building, customization and a whole host of other features. Its coming out a full n-years before SQ42 which was started development before Starfield (depending upon who you ask in both CIG and Bethesda camps). Here is the thing. Starfield is not meant to compete against Star Citizen. Its not even truly meant to compete against Squadron 42, although that statement is a little less accurate in as so much as their both single player games set in space. However, there are no apt comparisons between Star Citizen and Starfield. The following list is NOT meant as any kind of put down on Starfield (I for one plan on buying and playing Starfield when it comes out. It looks fun and gives me Fallout 4 vibes), but from my admittedly limited assessment of the same video we all saw, Starfield does not have Seamless, planet to ground transitions (It appears to be a cutscene) Free Roam of Planets. You appear to select a location and then fly down to what I imagine is a PG area and explore In-depth mechanics that require skill over leveling (mining shown in the video was fine, but shooting iron [with BEAMS gasp] appears to be the mechanic) The ability to get out of your ship in space Damage Modeling of ships - Ships appear as they are now in SC. When they get to zero, they explode instead of becoming disabled etc. Again, this isn't to try and crap on Starfield or try and stan on Star Citizen. They just are not the same type of games and they are not going to appeal to the same type of player. Which doesn't mean different people can't like the games (both) for different reasons. TL:DR - Trying to make comparisons between SC and SF is doomed to fail as they are not the same games with the same scope or the same target market.
