EDIT: I think i should make it clear, I have the Starfield premium edition, and will be playing it in the early hours of Sept 1st. This is not a hate SF thread, this is let's not make SF into something it isn't which is an actual competitor to Star Citizen. They are so massively different you might as well be comparing Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay to SC. This is a collation of info i have gathered on SF. I do not have access to pre-release and I'm not under any NDA (Personally, if you sign an NDA and then don't hold to it, you suck). Starfield is nothing like Star Citizen, in genre, depth or ambition: 1: Planets You, can't land on a planet and circumnavigate it on foot. What happens is you select a landing point and the game generates a tile for you to explore that's roughly 30min traversal. You then hit a wall, yes Starfield's map exploration is the Truman show. You see those mountains in the distance? No you can't go there and you can't climb it. It is proc gen, but even the tiles you have been to may not persist. That samwich you dropped, well it won't be there when you come back, and chances are the trees you dropped it by won't either. 2: Ships You are your ship in SF, there's no getting your crew to navigate/fly it while you do some other task on the journey, you sit in the pilot seat and the game makes you the ship, essentially elite dangerous. The ships do have interiors but there is nothing functional about them as they don't exist while in flight. Ship combat is low bar arcade, optimally played in third person view, so while you are your ship like Elite, it's flight model isn't. Calling it a flight model is questionable as it's not really like planes in space, it's more cars in space. 3: Travel Fast travel is a thing, if you've been somewhere before open your map and teleport there, who needs space travel in a space game? 4: Combat: I've mentioned ship combat is third person arcade, there is capacitor management that is basically mandatory in every game, but FPS combat is ridiculously arcade also. If you're looking for a tactical or skill based shooter experience SF isn't it, it's a run and gun hero fantasy shooter. Does any of this mean it is a going to be a bad game? Absolutely not, for some people arcade pew pew, fast travel, cars in space is exactly what they want but can we stop the nonsense that it is anything like SC in depth or complexity even with the limited amount of features Star Citizen currently has.
